Ergonomical benefits
The Veloped has an ergonomic grip bar that offers several grip positions, and while seated it acts as a back support. When the seat is slid forward the veloped provides more walking space, and in combination with the shape of the grip bar the tendency to walk with a more upright posture increases.
The height can of course be adjusted to suit users of different sizes. To make transport easy, it can be folded together and also partly dismounted. A hub brake with motion and parking brake functions provides increased safety and causes minimal tyre wear.
Independent study
Tech. L. Linda Rose et al. at the Swedish ergonomics firm ERAK has performed a scientific independent study, comparing the Veloped with two leading outdoor rollators. Several interesting results were obtained, e.g. measuring the force needed to pass different obstacles. The force needed to pass a 3,2 cm high curbstone with a rollator was measured to be 6–12 times greater in comparison with the Veloped. A big-wheeled rollator is unable to overcome obstacles higher than 4,5 cm, and instead it has to be lifted. The Veloped was found to climb obstacles as hign as 13 cm.
User test
The ergonomics firm ERAK has also performed a user test with ten participants. The test persons, all of them rollator users, tested the Veloped for a period of 3–5 summer weeks. The trial period was followed by interviews and EMG tests. In all of the outdoor environments tested, the Veloped got higher ratings than the test subjects’ rollator. Apart from this, several other functions were appreciated by the users, such as the design, the brake system and the basket. One of the comments by the participants was:
– “The design leaves a powerful impression, it inspires confidence.”
Conclusion
The main conclusion of the study is that the Veloped shows advantages in several aspects when compared to a rollator, especially when used in the outdoors and when overcoming obstacles.
7 out of the 10 test participants would rather use a Veloped instead of a rollator.
